Meet the Founder

Hi, I'm Jim Gilbert.

“Most agencies treat you like an ATM. We treat you like a partner.”

Small businesses deserve the same opportunities as the big guys. That belief is why Evolve exists.

Here's My Story

You’ve read about Evolve. Now let me tell you a bit about myself — and why my background helps me understand the challenges you’re facing.

I’ve spent 20+ years in digital transformation, marketing, and business operations. I’ve worked at Fortune 500 companies, led teams at major agencies, and built my own businesses. I’ve seen what works at scale — and what works for small businesses.

Three Ways I See Your Business

An engineer, a psychologist, and a strategist walk into your business

Three degrees, three perspectives — strategy, operations, and execution, not just one piece of the puzzle.

Engineering

Systems thinking, process design, data-driven problem solving. I diagnose, design, test, and optimize.

For you: I don’t throw tactics around — I build repeatable systems for SEO, content, and conversions.

Psychology

Understanding people — what motivates behavior and what builds trust. Marketing isn’t just algorithms.

For you: I focus on what makes customers choose you over competitors. Not just rankings — conversions.

MBA

Business strategy, financial fundamentals, return on investment. Profitable and sustainable, not just pretty.

For you: Every recommendation is tied to business outcomes, not just marketing metrics.
The Experience

From Fortune 500 to scrappy startups

I’ve seen how different businesses face different challenges — from corporate boardrooms to make-payroll-Friday.

Fortune 500 · Digital Transformation

The Right Ecosystem

Early in my career, I managed digital transformation at one of the largest publishing companies in the world — recognized in the top 1% out of a few hundred project managers, three years in a row.

For you: How to manage complexity and lead teams through large-scale change without breaking things.

Marketing Agency · Director of Operations

Running campaigns across dozens of industries

I oversaw SEO teams, digital advertising, creative and production, web development, and AI/automation at a large Upstate New York agency — across legal, healthcare, retail, restaurants, and B2B.

What frustrated me: Bloated meetings, wasted budget, and small-business clients getting generic strategies while big clients got custom attention. That frustration led to Evolve.
Founder · Award-Winning Publication

I've lived the small-business grind

I spent years running an arts and entertainment magazine that won Best Arts Publication multiple years running in our market.

What I learned: What it’s like to make payroll, compete for attention, and build something from scratch. I’m not just consulting on it — I’ve done it.

The Full Range

Stay-at-home moms to multi-location companies

Over the years I’ve helped solo practitioners compete against large firms, new businesses enter regulated markets like cannabis, and established companies adapt to changing competition. From corporate to scrappy.

Why I Left the Agency World

I kept seeing the same three problems

01. Waste

Eight people in a meeting accomplishing nothing. Clients paying $4,000–5,000 for two hours of talking.

02. Neglect

Large retainers, but accounts sitting on autopilot for months at a time.

03. Inequality

Fortune 500 clients got custom strategies and senior attention. Small businesses got templates and junior staff.

Small businesses work harder and care more about their communities — but they were treated as second-tier just because they couldn’t afford $10,000/month retainers. I couldn’t keep doing that. So I started Evolve.
"I love seeing underdogs win. When a local business outranks a national chain? That makes my day."

You're not supposed to win

They have bigger budgets, bigger teams, more resources. But you have advantages they don’t:

My job is to help you leverage those advantages — and make sure you show up when people search.

Upstate Roots

I'm not a consultant from somewhere else — I'm from here

I grew up in Herkimer, a small town in the Mohawk Valley, and I’ve spent my whole life in Upstate New York. Today I live in Niskayuna with my wife. We raise golden retrievers and chickens. I’ve got a boat on the Mohawk River and I hike the Adirondacks when I can.

I’m comfortable on a tractor or behind a computer. When I help a local business succeed, I see it in my community. That’s meaningful to me.

How I Work

Practical. Direct. Hands-on. Invested.

Practical

I don’t promise overnight results or #1 rankings. I tell you what’s realistic.

Direct

If something’s not worth doing, I’ll tell you. If you’re wasting money somewhere, I’ll say so.

Hands-on

You’re working with me — not a junior team member learning on your account.

Invested

When you win, I win. Your success is how I grow.

The Experience

From Fortune 500 to scrappy startups

I’ve seen how different businesses face different challenges — from corporate boardrooms to make-payroll-Friday.
